Another important property of surfactants is that they can spontaneously form micelles in aqueous solutions. With the increase of surfactant concentration, the micelles increased, and the shape of micelles changed from spherical, rod to layered. The micellar core formed in the aqueous solution of surfactant molecules creates a hydrophobic micro space, which can dissolve hydrophobic drug liquids or solutions in it. Therefore, the formation of micelles is of great significance for pesticide formulation processing.   

Tea wither, also known as tea seed cake, is the residue of tea seed after oil extraction. In the early 1960s, Anhui Research Institute of Chemical Industry saponified tea wither. The modified tea wither TEMW 3 # produced by Anhui Research Institute of Chemical Industry was successfully applied in the 6% (mass fraction) BHC wettable powder. The amount of use was greatly reduced compared with untreated tea wither, and the performance was significantly improved.

Current problems: ① Although China has a large capacity to produce surfactants for pesticides, some of them still need to be imported from abroad. The main reason is that the price of raw materials for domestic surfactant production fluctuates greatly, which increases the risk of pesticide processing enterprises. ② The scientific research and development of surfactant for pesticide is insufficient, new varieties are few, and production capacity has not been formed. Some varieties with special structure are still being explored.   

Pesticide formulations are developing in the direction of waterborne, granulated, multi-functional, slow release, labor saving and refinement. Some new formulations with high efficiency, safety, economy and environmental compatibility, such as microemulsion, water emulsion, suspension, water dispersible granule, dry suspension, slow release and other new formulations are emerging, and will be the mainstream of pesticide formulation development in the 21st century, The demand of new pesticide formulations for surfactants will certainly promote the production and development of pesticide specific surfactants. Around the new trend of pesticide formulation development, pesticide surfactants in the world are developing in the direction of non-toxic, environment-friendly, high molecular weight, high efficiency, low dosage, multi-function, high quality and low price.
