In recent years, the application of surfactants in the production of finishing additives has been further strengthened, and cationic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants and silicon and fluorine-containing surfactants have been widely used. The new progress is to develop surfactants for leather finishing with multi-functional and special functions, which are compounded with other chemicals to give leather excellent application properties.

In water-based finishing, sulfated oil and glycerol are commonly used as plasticizers of protein finishing agents; Pure oil and castor oil are used as plasticizers to maintain the softness of the coating. The use of penetrant is to increase the fluidity, permeability and emulsion stability of the coating. Common materials include JFC, Pingjia, etc.

As the main additive in the finishing agent, wax can add anti sticking plate before ironing, which can increase the softness and improve the hand feel when used in the top coating. Methyl silicone oil is also a good hand feel agent. In this regard, the new products in China include XQ-SW modified ND-3 silicone hydroxyl silicone oil emulsion, hydroxyl silicone oil, eighteen alcohol, amphoteric imidazoline surfactant as the main ingredient, and the amphoteric leather softener. Such products abroad include Bayer's corial wax series.

Waterproof agent is mainly to increase the brightness and waterproof of the coating. Its main components are silicon and fluorine-containing chemicals. It is waterproof, oil proof and antifouling. Products include fluorocarbon additives jointly developed by Shanghai organic fluorine materials research institute and Shanghai Leather Industry Research Institute, xeroderm L700 of Bayer company, densoderm series of BASF company, fx-3578 of 3M company, etc.

Other finishing auxiliaries such as matting agents include bayderm seal series of Bayer company; Thickeners include Bayer's eukanol series, etc. In short, the development of finishing additives should be aimed at the different characteristics of bottom, middle and top finishing, water-based finishing and solvent finishing, and meet the requirements of high performance of leather.
